Koroush Soleimani: Creating a comedy situation is like playing the piano

Iran Theater-The director of the "Agreement", Koroush Soleimani, believes that creating a comedy situation in the theater is like playing the piano, the fingers must press the keys at a specific time to make the notes sound.

Written by French writer, Philip Claudel "Agreement" has been staged in Tehran's Malek Hall since April 4, 2024 and will continue its performance until May 2. It’s featuring Barham Tashakour,Ramin Nasernasir and Koroush Solemiani.

Koroush Soleimani explained choosing a play by a French playwright for his new experience in directing: "The plays I choose to perform must be close to my thoughts. On the other hand, it must have serious relations with the times and people of my society. As a matter of fact ,the words that are said in it, the thought that it puts forward and the situations that happen in it, should be tangible for the Iranian audience Because this tip helps to connect the audience with the show more seriously. All these things had an impact on the selection of this play.”

This director and actor replied a question about the success of "Agreement" in attracting the audience: "The comedy of the situation formed in the show, which is caused by the awareness of the audience and the ignorance of the characters, and it convey a good mood to the audience; But the formation of comic moments did not emerge with a comedic approach to the text, and our attempt was to make the dramatic form of the work similar to life.”

Soleimani compared verbal comedy and situation comedy: "Situation comedy is more difficult than verbal comedy, but finding a comedy situation is not an easy task. Situation comedies often have a deeper effect on the audience as well. Crearting a comedy situation is like playing the piano, in fact, the fingers have to press the keys at the right time to make the notes sound.”

Soleimani talked about the Iranian audience's good connection with a play by a French author: "When a work is written with a proper understanding of human beings and humanity, it can definitely connect with the audience and be understood everywhere in the world. We live in a world where our world is shrunk by media and technology, everyone knows each other and knows what is happening in different countries. Fortunately, the play has some features that correctly and accurately criticizes the human being and at the same time contains important issues and the characters are very understandable; This can creates a connection between the work and the audience."
